Quik, 1958

American graffiti-painter

Linwood A. Felton was born in Queens (New York) in 1958, and although he did not, like so many others, grow up in painful circumstances, he tagged trains from the age of ten.

There was something wrong with one of Lin's arms that prevented him from playing sport. As a result he had little choice but to go and watch baseball games in the company of his grandmother. It was on these excursions that he saw the fascinating, painted subway cars passing by.

In the evenings he would use choir practice as an excuse to excape from the house and tag 'Star 10' as artistically as possible on trains and walles. He chose the name 'Quik' when he was 12.

Linwood is best described as a quiet loner. Whilst other did their thing in noisy groups, he preferred to work quietly on his own. Nevertheless, he would become the absolute, albeit uncrowned, king of the tag.
